Tissue Paper Texture
From burnished gold to hand-rubbed leather, amazing finishes result from manipulating tissue paper and wallpaper paste on a wall. You can use these materials simply to create an interesting texture that gives walls an organic, handmade look. Or, by choosing colors carefully, you can create faux effects.
For the look of gold leaf, paint the textured surface gold, then rub it with a reddish glaze. For leather, choose paint that's reddish-brown, brown, or tan and use a darker glaze.
If you aren't aiming for a faux look but simply want beautifully textured wall, you can stop after you paint the surface or you can top it with a glaze that brings out the texture. In this case, use glaze two shades darker than the paint.
Special Effects
Wood graining, glow-in-the-dark designs, frottage, marbling, cloudsthe special effects that can be created with ordinary and specialty paints are almost endless. Some are suitable for walls, while others, such as marbling and wood graining, are more likely to show up on other surfaces, such as woodwork or furniture.
