Penne Pasta With Bacon and Cream

This rich penne dish is much like mac and cheese--hearty enough to be an entree.
15 bacon slices
1 (8-ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
2 garlic cloves, minced
16 ounces penne pasta, cooked
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups whipping cream
1/2 teaspoon pepper
4 green onions, sliced
1. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp; remove bacon, reserving 2 tablespoons drippings in skillet. Coarsely crumble bacon.
2. Sauté sliced mushrooms and garlic in reserved drippings 3 minutes or until tender. Stir in pasta, Parmesan cheese, whipping cream, and pepper; simmer over medium-low heat, stirring often, until sauce thickens (about 5 minutes). Stir in bacon and green onions. Serve hot. Yield: 6 main-dish servings.

Here's a great recipe for the beach, for a supper club, or a children's party.
17 ice-cream sandwiches (we tested with Mayfield)
1 (12.25-ounce) jar caramel topping
1 1/4 cups chopped pecans, toasted
1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
3/4 cup hot fudge topping, heated
1. Place 8 1/2 ice-cream sandwiches in a 13 x 9 inch baking dish. Spread evenly with caramel topping, and sprinkle with 1 cup pecans. Top with 2 cups whipped topping and remaining ice-cream sandwiches. Spread remaining whipped topping evenly over sandwiches. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup pecans. Cover and freeze at least 2 hours. Let stand 5 minutes before serving; cut into squares. Drizzle with fudge topping. Yield: 10 servings.

Efficient Grocery Shopping
Here are a few tips toward speedy shopping.
* Write your grocery list according to categories in the store. For example, list all dairy needs together in one column.
* Don't shop when you're hungry. And try to avoid shopping weekdays between 5 and 7 p.m.the busiest shopping hours.
* Shop the perimeter of the store first. This is where the basics areproduce, dairy, meats, deli goods.
* Stockpile pantry goods and items you use regularly when they're on sale.
* Put your groceries through the checkout in categories, and ask the clerk to bag like items together. Once home, you can put items away quickly, because they'll already be sorted.
